Normal characteristics, not defects

Digital watches share a few characteristics that are inherent to how LCD displays work. These are not manufacturing defects and are not covered:

  • Viewing-angle shadow. Digits may appear to have a slight shadow or shift in shape when viewed from an angle. LCD pixels sit between two layers of glass, so this is normal for every digital watch.
  • Slight variation in display background color between individual units.
  • Timekeeping variance. All digital and quartz movements have a margin of error. Ours is specified at 0.7 seconds per day, and roughly one second per day is within normal operating range. Note that setting the time to the minute rather than the second introduces additional variance at the start.
